Metra sued after a train hits a vehicle

Memmen

A Cook County resident is suing after a Metra train struck her vehicle.

Ramona F. Lee filed a lawsuit Dec. 3 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp., doing business as Metra, citing negligence.

The complaint states on Dec. 10, 2012, Lee was operating a motor vehicle and was stopped on the railroad tracks on South Cornell Avenue in Chicago.

The plaintiff states that while her vehicle was stopped on the railroad tracks, the defendant's train struck her vehicle. She claims the defendants acted negligently by failing to provide adequate warning, failing to maintain the warning lights and crossing arms, failing to keep a proper lookout for vehicles at the crossing and operating the train at an unreasonably fast speed.

Lee is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by Alexander McHenry Memmen of The Memmen Law Firm LLC.
