Chicago man sues hospital for allegedly failing to provide required care over sexual assault

Scales

Northwestern Memorial Hospital and a doctor are being sued over claims they improperly responded to a patient who alleged he was sexually assaulted.

Cordero Hightower filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on Oct. 30 against Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and Dr. Amber Aldeen.

Hightower alleges that on Nov. 1, 2011, he went to the defendant's emergency room, at 251 E. Huron St. in Chicago, stating he was sexually assaulted.

He claims the defendants were negligent for not ordering a drug test when a date rape drug was suspected, failing to order a sexually transmitted disease and HIV tests, failed to document the examination correctly and failed to complete the sexual assault collection kit.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented in the case by William McGowen III of McGowen & McGowen P.C.
