Macneal Hospital faces medical malpractice suit

A local medical care facility and providers are facing suit over claims they provided inadequate medical care, resulting in death.

Margaret Morrissey, as independent executor of the Estate of Edward J. Morrissey, filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Nov. 8 in the Circuit Court of Cook County against VHS of Illinois Inc., doing business as Macneal Hospital, Dr. Mark Choh and Dr. Kathleen Bhatt.

According to the suit, Edward Morrissey was a patient at Macneal Hospital on Nov. 11, 2011, for a follow-up procedure that resulted in a perforation of his colon. She claims the defendants failed to timely diagnose the perforation, caused the perforation and failed to administer antibiotics,

She claims Edward Morrissey died on Nov. 14, 2011 as a result of the defendants' actions.

She is seeking more than the jurisdictional minimum in damages and is being represented in the case by Daniel K. Touhy of Touhy, Touhy & Buehler LLP.
