Bloomingdale's and Macy's sued after women falls in store

Scales

A woman is suing, claiming she tripped and fell while at a Bloomingdale's store.

Janice Witzel filed a lawsuit Dec. 11 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Bloomingdales Inc., Macy's Retail Holdings Inc., also known as Macy's, and Macy's Corporate Services Inc., citing negligence and premise liability.

The complaint states Witzel was a customer in the Bloomingdale's store at 4963 Old Orchard Center in Skokie on Jan. 14, 2012, when she tripped and fell because her foot became stuck underneath a temporary clothing fixture.

She claims the defendant was careless and negligent, which caused the plaintiff's injury.

Witzel is seeking damages above the jurisdictional minimum and is being represented in the case by George Argionis of Argionis & Associates LLC.
