A woman is suing after a portion of a ceiling allegedly collapsed and knocked her to the floor.
Elizabeth Drew filed a lawsuit Dec. 9 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Markham, the Markham Fire Department and Ronald Moaton, individually and as agent of the city, citing willful and wanton and negligence.
According to the suit, the defendants extinguished a house fire on Dec. 10, 2012 at 16122 S. Homan Ave. in Markham. Drew alleges she arrived at the home to confirm her relative survived the fire.
Moaton allegedly instructed Drew to enter a room to collect belongings and while she was in the room a piece of the roof fell from the ceiling knocking her to the floor.
She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs, and is being represented by Megan O'Connor of the Deratany Firm.
