A suburban race track is facing a lawsuit after a spectator claims she was hit in the face with track debris.

Shari Byrom filed a lawsuit Dec. 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Kankakee Speedway Promotions Inc., citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Byrom was sitting in a seat at the defendant's race track at 213 W. 4000 South Road in Kankakee on May 25, 2012, when she was struck in the face by debris from the track.

Byrom claims the defendant was negligent by failing to prevent debris from flying from the race track into the seating area, failing to provide adequate safety screens, failing to warn her of the likelihood of flying debris, allowed her to use the premises despite the unsafe condition and allowed to exist a race track in a defective condition.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is represented by attorney Kevin E. O'Reilly of The Law Offices of Kevin E. O'Reilly LLC.
