A man is suing over injuries he contends he sustained after slipping on ice in a parking lot.

Randy Van Niel filed a lawsuit July 29 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Menard Inc. and JTP Lawn Inc., citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Van Niel was exiting a Menard's store owned and operated by Menard Inc. on Jan. 29, 2012, when he slipped on an unnatural accumulation of ice and fell.

He claims the store was under contract at that time with JTP Lawn Inc. for snow and ice removal, but that the defendants to remove excess ice, failed to warn of dangerous conditions and failed to provide a safe premises for customers.

Van Niel is being represented in the case by attorney J. Thomas Chute.
