Mount Sinai Hospital, doctor sued over woman's surgery

Mount Sinai Hospital is being sued over claims a woman's colon was punctured during surgery.

Kevin Stephans, as independent administrator of the estate of Rosetta Hill, , filed a lawsuit Nov. 7 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. David Butler and Mount Sinai Hospital, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Hill underwent PEG tube insertion surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital on Nov. 7, 2011 and died on Sept. 13, 2012.

Stephans claims Butler was negligent in perforating Hill's colon and failing to properly perform the procedure. He accuses Mount Sinai Hospital of negligence that caused Hill to develop pressure sores.

Stephans is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Charles V. Falkenberg III of Karlin, Fleisher & Falkenberg LLC.
