Retirement home sued over allegedly faulty elevator

Rubin

A woman is suing over injuries sustained by elevator doors.

Mary Kapini filed a lawsuit Nov. 26 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Woodstock Christian Life Services, doing business as The Manor at Hearthstone Communities, and Otis Elevator Co., citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Kapini was on the defendant's property at 920 N. Seminary Ave. in Woodstock on April 23, 2012 when she was injured by elevator doors that were improperly shutting.

She claims the defendants negligently failed to maintain the premises and elevator, failed to inspect and service the elevator, failed to warm and allowed her to use the faulty elevator.

Kapini is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by Stephanie B. Rubin of Rubin, Machado & Rosenblum Ltd.
