Metra sued after an employee is injured on a platform

Mcmahon

A Metra employee is suing over claims he sustained injury at a train station known for having a dangerous step onto its platform.

Michal Dering filed a lawsuit Jan. 13 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp., doing business as Metra.

According to the complaint, Dering was working for Metra as a passenger railroad conductor on Jan. 18, 2011 when he slipped and was injured while getting off a train at the Tinley Park 80th Avenue Station on the Rock Island District Line.

The lawsuit alleges that this platform is known as a dangerous one, with a steep difference in train and platform height, and at least four passengers having reported injuries in the past. On Jan. 18, 2011, Dering claims the danger was compounded with ice.

He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney William J. McMahon of Hoey & Farina P.C.
