A man filed a legal malpractice suit Jan. 10 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Schiller, Du Canto and Fleck LLP lawyers he hired to handle his divorce.
Essam A. Ammar states in his complaint he had numerous premarital assets, including an IRA and a condominium, the value of which he believes he should have gotten exclusive control over.
He claims his attorneys were not able to get him assets he contends he was entitled under Illinois's divorce laws.
Ammar accuses his former lawyers of purposefully dragging on his divorce proceedings so they could continue to bill him for their time and claims the case has been mismanaged and costly, resulting in financial and emotional damage.
He is representing himself and is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
