Woman sues hospital over mother's death

Nw

Janet Bedin, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Dolores Bedin, filed suit Nov. 17 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Northwestern Surgical Associates, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Drs. Elisabeth Wallner and Kyle Mueller.

According to the complaint, Dolores Bedin began seeing the defendants in August 2007 with complaints of abdominal pain and was given a CT scan that showed two hernias and another suspicious mass.

Bedin claims Dolores then underwent an MRI to evaluate the suspicious mass in her pancreas, but that the mass was never evaluated or discussed.

The suit asserts that Dolores visited the defendants numerous times with stomach related complaints between 2007 and 2010, during which time the suspicious mass was never discussed.

In 2010, Bedin contends Dolores underwent more tests at the request of a new doctor that showed she may have pancreatic cancer. The suit states that a subsequent scan and biopsy confirmed Dolores had cancer and that she died in August 2011.

Bedin is accusing the defendants of failing to diagnose and treat Dolores' pancreatic cancer in a timely manner. She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented by attorneys at Burke and O'Brien P.C.
