Advocate Medical Center and a doctor are facing suit over allegations it committed medical malpractice that resulted in a death.

Pedro V. Gaytan, as special administrator of the Estate of Peter V. Gaytan Jr., filed a lawsuit Jan. 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as Advocate Medical Group and Dr. Nora T. Bellosa.

According to the complaint, Peter was seen at The Heart Institute for Children at Hope Children's Hospital on Aug. 27, 2011 and diagnosed with myocarditis. On Nov. 4, 2011, and Dec. 13, 2011, the suit states that Bellosa administered the flu vaccine to Peter.

Gaytan contends that as a result of the defendants' negligence, Peter died on Jan. 16, 2012.

He is seeking damages in excess of jurisdictional minimum and is being represented in the case by attorney Laurie A. Niego of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz.
