A man is suing over claims his mother died from complications following surgery.

Scott Stubbs, as independent administrator of the estate of Jacqueline Hoppe, filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Jan. 27 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Malcolm M. Bilimoria, Advanced Surgical Associates S.C. and Northwest Community Hospital.

According to the complaint, Bilimoria was employed by Advanced Surgical Associates and Northwest Community Hospital on Jan. 5, 2012 when he performed a pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, also known as a Whipple Procedure, on Hoppe.

Stubbs claims Bilimoria diagnosed Hoppe with a perforated bowel on Jan. 16, 2012 and treated it with bio-glue, treatment he alleges violated the standard of care for a reasonably well-qualified medical provider and contributed to Hoppe's Feb. 1, 2012 death.

He is accusing Bilimoria of failing to diagnose the perforated bowel in a timely manner.

Stubbs is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Ryan Yagoda of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz.
