Meeder

A non-profit is suing an architecture firm over claims the installed flooring failed inspection.

New Moms Housing Development LLC, by its managing and sole member, New Moms Inc., filed a lawsuit Jan. 17 in the Cook County Circuit Court against McBride Kelley Baurer Inc., citing professional negligence and breach of contract.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 31, 2008, New Moms Inc. hired McBride to design the New Moms' Transformation Center, a non-profit housing center for homeless adolescent parents and their children.

The plaintiff claims McBride failed to provide proper specifications to the contractor, which led to the installation of flooring that failed a March 19, 2013 building inspection, costing New Moms Inc. more than $156,000 for installation and $350,000 for replacement.

New Moms Inc. is seeking more than $506,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys Gregory R. Meeder and James P. Chivilo of Holland & Knight LLP.
