Orthopaedic group, doctor sued over patient's death

Berdelle

Parkview Orthopaedic Group and a doctor are facing suit after allegedly committing medical malpractice.

Linda Collins, as special administrator of the Estate of McEvelyn Parker, filed suit Jan. 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Parkview Orthopaedic Group SC and Dr. William Baylis.

According to the complaint, Baylis performed surgery March 9, 2012 on Parker, who had to undergo a second surgery on April 3, 2012 after a followup showed the first had failed.

Collins claims Parker was found unresponsive in her room after the second surgery and died on April 5, 2012. She accuses of the defendants of being negligent by using inadequate fracture fixation during the March 9 surgery and failing to use appropriate methods in the second, resulting in Parker's death.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Richard L. Berdelle Jr. of Richard L. Berdelle Jr. P.C.
