Hospital, doctor sued over knee surgery

Scales

A woman is suing the surgeon and the hospital where her knee surgery took place, alleging the surgery resulted in further injury.

Debra Anfield Cooper filed a lawsuit Oct. 17 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Franciscan Alliance Inc., doing business as Franciscan St. James Health-Olympia Fields, Dr. William Payne and Wellgroup Health Partners LLC, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Cooper went to Franciscan St. James Health-Olympia Fields on Dec. 7, 2011 for surgery on her left knee. The plaintiff alleges that Payne negligently performed the surgery, resulting in permanent injuries to her peroneal nerve, pain, drop foot and profound immobility of the ankle.

Cooper is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. She is being represented in the case by attorney Edward W. McNabola of the McNabola Law Group P.C.
