Loyola Medical Center sued over post surgery complications

Scales

A woman is suing a hospital over claims its malpractice left her with complications following spinal surgery.

Eileen Hagan filed a lawsuit Dec. 3 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Loyola University Medical Center.

According to the complaint, Hagan, who has a history of dwarfism and hypertension, was admitted to Loyola on Dec. 2, 2011 to undergo elective occipital spinal fusion with lumbar drain placement.

Hagan claims she suffered from postoperative complications including a cerebrospinal fluid leak and elevated blood pressure. She alleges she had some trouble breathing and developed bed sores, which also required surgery, as a result of Loyola's negligence.

Hagan is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits and is being represented by attorney Paul D. Richter.
