Nursing home accused of negligence in resident's death

Scales

A man is suing an area nursing home over claims its negligence led to the death of one of its residents.

James Morgan, as independent administrator of the Estate of Edith Whitaker, filed suit in October in the Cook County Circuit Court against Glencrest Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre Ltd., citing the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Whitaker was admitted to Glencrest at 2451 W. Touhy Ave. in November 2011. Morgan claims Glencrest failed to take appropriate measures to ensure Whitaker did not develop ulcers.

He alleges that Whitaker was healthy when she was admitted, but developed ulcers as a result of Glencrest's negligence. Whitaker died on Dec. 5, 2011, the suit states.

Morgan is seeking more than $50,000 and is being represented by attorneys at Karlin, Fleisher and Falkenberg LLC.
