A Cook County woman is suing over claims she fell down a staircase at her children's school and sustained injuries.

Lori Arredondo filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in the Cook County District Court against the Chicago Board of Education, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Arrendondo was dropping off her children at the defendant-owned Beaubien Elementary School at 5025 N. Laramie Ave. in Chicago on Jan. 9, when she lost her balance and fell down a staircase.

She claims the defendant had been made aware the first step of the staircase needed to be marked out and have slip resistant material applied. As a result of the fall, Arrendondo alleges she fractured her right arm and damaged nerves.

Arrendondo is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Ken Hoffman of Mitchell, Hoffman & Wolf.
