A couple is suing a hospital and doctor, claiming they failed to properly diagnose a man's septic shock.
Sigitas and Violeta Girciene filed suit Nov. 7 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as Advocate Medical Group-Lockport, and Dr. Dalius Kedainis.
According to the complaint, Sigitas was admitted to Advocate Hospital in Lockport with complaints of abdominal pain, cramps and diarrhea on Nov. 9, 2011, when he was seen by
Kedainis and diagnosed with gastroenteritis.
The Gircienes allege Kedainis ordered lab work Sigitas' stool, but did not give them the results, which showed his propensity to go into septic shock. The suit states Sigitas went to Paslos Community Hospital in Palos Heights on Nov. 16, when he diagnosed with septic shock and stayed until Dec. 16, 2011.
They claim Advocate Hospital and Kedainis failed to properly diagnose and treat his ailment, which could have been avoided had the proper analysis been carried out.
The suit includes a count for loss of consortium on behalf of Sigitas' wife, Violeta.
The Gircienes are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented by Chicago attorney Alexander M. Sukhman.
