A family is suing after a diagnostic company allegedly failed to diagnose a woman's cancer.
Robin Diesburg, as special administrator of the estate of Jennifer Johnson, filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Quest Diagnostics LLC, citing medical malpractice.
According to the complaint, Johnson's doctor sent a pap smear to Quest Diagnostics for screening on Feb. 4, 2010 after Johnson complained of pelvic pain, and the test was reported by Quest to be negative.
Johnson then underwent a biopsy of an abdominal mass on May 8, 2010, at Rush Copley Medical Center and cancer was found, the suit states. Diesburg claims Rush Copley reviewed the results of the previous Quest test and found they showed indicators of the cancer.
Johnson died March 16, 2012, according to the complaint.
Diesburg is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Michael W. Clancy.
