A nursing home is facing suit over claims it violated the state's Nursing Home Care Act.
Essie Helm filed a lawsuit Dec. 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Mayfield Care Center.
According to the complaint, Helm was a resident at Mayfield Care Center on Sept. 10 and required a gait belt and personal assistance when being transferred because she was without function on the right side of her body.
Helm claims she when was receiving medical care from the defendant, she suffered trauma to her pelvic region, requiring substantial medical care. She alleges the defendant failed to properly transfer her, use a gait belt, supervise her and educate staff regarding her care plan.
Helm is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by J. Matthew Dudley of Dudley & Lake LLC.
