A Chicago resident is suing over claims she was injured after a pharmacist wrongfully changed her dosage.

Minister Charnessa Carter filed a lawsuit Feb. 14 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Walgreens and Deval Patel, individually and as an employee of Walgreens, citing negligence, professional negligence and violations of civil rights and the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.

According to the complaint, Carter filled a prescription at Walgreens on Dec. 18, 2012, when Patel informed her she should only take half of the dosage that had been ordered by her physician.

Carter says she complied with Patel's instructions, which allegedly caused her to develop symptoms, resulting in hospitalization and physical therapy.

Cater is seeking compensatory damages, punitive damages, equitable relief, costs and fees. She is being represented in the case by Lori S.C. Yokoyama & Associates P.C.
