Chicago law firm sued for breach of contract

A Chicago man is suing law firm for failing to properly represent his case.

Andrew S. Cwik filed a lawsuit on Feb. 19 in the Cook County District Court against the Law Offices of Jonathan Merel P.C. and Jonathan Merel, citing breach of contract.

Cwik claims he entered into an attorney, client relationship on June 20, 2011, with the defendant, 180 N. Stetson Ave. No. 1300 in Chicago, for the purpose of modifying Cwik's visitation schedule with his children and divorce decree. The suit alleges the defendant failed to represent Cwik to the court as promised, resulting in the motion being dismissed and Cwik having to pay for his ex-wife's attorney fees of $11,733.98, plus interest.

Cwik is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and the attorney's fees from the defendant be waived. He is being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys Jefferey O. Katz and Benjamin Cunningham of The Patterson Law Firm LLC.
