Loyola medical center, doctors accused of misplacing epidural

Scales

A Cook County woman is suing over claims she sustained injuries after a misplaced epidural.

Cathy Flentge filed a medical malpractice lawsuit on Feb. 19 in the Cook County District Court against Loyola University Health System, doing business as Loyola University Medical Center, Loyola University Physician Foundation,  and Drs. Ricky Shah and Basem Abdelfattah.

The suit states Flentge went into labor on Feb 22, 2012 and was admitted at Loyola University Medical Center to deliver her baby.

The suit alleges the defendants failed to get Flentge's consent, allowing a resident physician, Abdelfattah, to place the epidural. She claims the attending anesthesiologist, Shah, did not properly supervise the procedure, resulting in Abdelfattah damaging her nerve root.

Flentge is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 from each defendant and court costs. She is being represented in the case by attorneys at The Deratany Firm in Chicago.
