Elgin nursing home sued over resident's pressure ulcers

Michael eisenberg

A suburban nursing home is facing suit over claims it violated the Nursing Home Care Act.

Karen Hart, through her power of attorney Carolyn Hart, filed a lawsuit Feb. 18 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care of Elgin IL LLC, doing business as Manorcare of Elgin.

The suit states Karen was admitted to Manorcare of Elgin in August 2011 and the defendant knew or should have known she was a high risk for the development and deterioration of pressure ulcers.

While a resident there, Karen developed multiple pressure ulcers as a direct result of the defendant violating the Nursing Home Care Act, the complaint alleges.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs and fees, and is being represented by Michael J. Eisenberg of the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates.
