UPDATE: Cook County court records indicate this case was dismissed under a settlement agreement on Aug. 8, 2016.
A Cook County woman is suing over claims she sustained injuries after misplaced epidural.
Cathy Flentge filed a lawsuit on Feb. 19 in the Cook County District Court against Loyola University Health System, doing business as Loyola University Medical Center, Loyola University Physician Foundation, Dr. Ricky Shah and Dr. Basem Abdelfattah, citing medical malpractice.
Flentge claims that on Feb 22, 2012, she went into labor and was admitted to the defendant's facility, Loyola University Medical Center in Cook County, to deliver her baby. The suit alleges the defendant failed to get Flentge's consent allowing a resident physician, defendant Dr. Abdelfattah, to place the epidural. According to the brief, the attending anesthesiologist, defendant Dr. Shah, was not properly supervising the procedure, resulting in Dr. Abdelfattah damaging Flentge's nerve root.
Flentge is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 from each defendant and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys The Deratany Firm.
