Northwestern Memorial Hospital named in medical malpractice claim

A Cook County woman is suing over claims she received negligent care from a Chicago hospital.

Esther Agbeye filed a lawsuit on Feb. 19 in the Cook County District Court against Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Surgical Associates and Dr. Wilson H. Hartz III, citing medical malpractice.

The plaintiff calls Dr. Gerald J. Mingolelli and Dr. Thomas Lee as Respondents in Discovery to give information that would determine who else should be named as defendants.

Agbeye claims she consulted the defendants, in Chicago, on Feb. 3, 2012, for surgical evaluation and treatment of an abnormal growth in her colon. The suit alleges the defendant failed to see the abnormal growth and assured Agbeye there was no polyp in her colon, resulting in an 11 month delay in diagnosing and treating her colon cancer. According to the brief, Agbeye was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, on Jan. 19, 2013, after experiencing severe abdominal pain.

Agbeye is seeking damages in excess of jurisdictional amount and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys John B. Kralovec and Melissa K. McCracken, of Kralovec, Jambois and Schwartz.
