A woman is suing a hospital and others after she allegedly sustained injuries during an elevator malfunction.

Lucia Fata filed a lawsuit Feb. 26 in the Cook County District Court against MacNeal Management Services Inc., MacNeal Physicians Group LLC, VHS of Illinois, doing business as MacNeal Hospital, and Otis Elevator Co., citing negligence.

Fata claims she was riding the elevator in the MacNeal Family Medicine Center at 3231 S. Euclid Ave. in Berwyn on Feb. 27, 2012, when she was injured.

According to the suit, when Fata put one foot out to exit the elevator, it suddenly dropped a few inches and then immediately jolted upwards to become flush with the floor level, causing injuries to her knees, wrists, legs, back and mouth.

Fata is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Dina M. Ninfo of Sutter & Ori LLC.
