Nursing home sued over resident's pressure ulcers

Michael eisenberg

A woman is suing over claims she was injured while a resident in a suburban Cook County nursing home.

Shirley Bastounes, by her duly appointed power of attorney Heather Bastounes, filed a lawsuit March 12 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Summit Square LLC, doing business as The Summit of Uptown, and Respitecare/Care in the Home Inc.

According to the complaint, in July of 2010, Shirley Bastounes became a resident at The Summit of Uptown, an assisted living center in Park Ridge operated by Summit Square and with care provided by Respitecare.

The lawsuit states that during her stay in the home, Bastounes developed pressure ulcers, despite the defendants' knowledge of her propensity to develop such injuries.

Bastounes is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Michael J. Eisenberg of the Law Offices of Steve J. Malman & Associates P.C.
