Woman claims she was assaulted during vehicle repossession

Scales

A Cook County woman is suing over allegations she was assaulted by a man attempting to repossess her vehicle.

Ermelinda Silva Canuto filed a lawsuit March 12 in the Cook County District Court against Anthony Sailla, Americredit Financial Services Inc., doing business as GM Financial, and Asset Recovery Management Inc., doing business as Diversified Recovery, citing negligence and battery.

Canuto claims on April 12, 2012, defendant Sailla, an employee of defendants Americredit and Asset Recovery, came to her door to repossess her vehicle. The suit alleges Sailla came to Canuto's home early in the morning demanding her car keys and when she hesitated, he grabbed her and threw her on the floor.

Canuto is seeking damages in excess of $30,000 and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys at Rosenfeld, Hafron, Shapiro & Farmer.
