Blue Island Hospital Co., others accused of failing to diagnose breast cancer

Thomas g. gardiner

A Cook County woman is suing a hospital and doctor she claims failed to diagnose her cancer.

Muriel Buckner filed a lawsuit on March 14 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Palmer Blakley, Blue Island Hospital Company LLC and MSMC Investors LLC, citing medical malpractice.

Buckner claims she was under the defendants' care on April 7, 2011 for a follow up mammogram with spot compression and ultrasound of her right breast after an abnormal mammogram on Feb. 28.

The suit alleges the defendants failed to diagnose cancer in her right breast and as a result, Buckner's malignant tumor was not discovered until March 15, 2012.

Buckner is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional amount and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys Thomas G. Gardiner, John R. Wrona, and Micah J. Hughes, of Gardiner Koch Weisberg and Wrona.
