Dozens of companies named in asbestos suit over man's mesothelioma

A Cook County man is suing over claims his mesothelioma was caused by exposure to asbestos containing products.

Robert Spilky filed a lawsuit April 7 in the Cook County Circuit Court against A.W. Chesterton Co., Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and dozens of other companies,.

According to the complaint, during his 1957 to 1978 employment as a painter, as well as in non-occupational projects, Spilky was unknowingly exposed to asbestos through products manufactured, sold, or distributed by the defendants.

Spilky claims was diagnosed with mesothelioma on March 5 as a result of asbestos exposure.

He is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits, plus costs. He is being represented in the case by attorney David O. Barrett of Cooney & Conway.
