Jewel sued after customer slips on smashed grapes

A woman is suing over claims she was injured when she slipped on smashed fruit at an Evanston grocery store.

Sharlene Glass filed a lawsuit April 7 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Jewel Food Stores Inc., citing premises liability.

According to the complaint, Glass was at the Jewel store on Howard Street in Evanston on June 29, when she slipped on smashed grapes and a foreign substance on the floor, fell and was injured. She claims Jewel was negligent in maintaining its store.

Glass is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limit. She is being represented in the case by attorney Peter D. Tarpey of Tarpey, Jones & Schroeder LLC.
