Columbus Park Nursing and Rehab Center sued over patient's fall, surgery

Young

A woman is suing a Chicago nursing home, claiming its negligence caused her serious injuries after sustaining a fall.

Mary Ellen Jones filed a lawsuit April 4 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Columbus Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Inc., doing business as Columbus Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, S.I.R. Management Inc., and licensed practical nurses Deanial S. English and Ashlynn Roper, citing negligence.

Jones claims she was a resident at the defendant's facility from Oct. 2, 2010 until April 22, 2012, during which time she required supervision and extensive assistance due to a high risk for falling.

The suit states Jones fell on April 8, 2012, resulting in a fractured left leg that required surgery and the placement of hardware. She alleges she experienced complications from the fall and surgery, which left her confined to a wheelchair.

Jones is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional minimum and is being represented by Chicago attorney Jonathan Young of Kralovec, Jambois and Schwartz.
