The parents of a young boy are suing the Village of Flossmoor, claiming a poorly maintained ventilation system at the public library caused their son to fall.
Sylvia and Sellar Vines, individually and as parents of Sellars Vines II, filed a lawsuit April 17 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the Village of Flossmoor, citing negligence.
The Vines claim they were visiting the Flossmoor Public Library at 1000 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor on March 28, when their young son was injured.
The suit alleges the defendant failed to properly maintain the library's ventilation system, resulting in Sellars Vines II falling through the collapsed outdoor ventilation shaft.
The couple claims Sellars Vines II's injuries was the result of the defendant's indifference or conscious disregard for his safety. The Sellars allege they incurred medical expenses on behalf of their son and have suffered a loss of income.
They are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and are being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Larry R. Rogers Jr. of Power Rogers and Smith P.C.
