Silver Cross Hospital and Medical Centers and others are being sued after a patient died from complications of a Caesarean delivery.

Travis Griggs, as administrator of the Estate of Megan Griggs, filed a medical malpractice lawsuit April 25 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Silver Cross Hospital and Medical Centers, Bush and Associates Ltd., Dr. Maureen S. Mietelski and registered nurse Therese O'Brien.

According to the complaint, Megan Griggs was 35 weeks pregnant on May 13, 2012 when she went to the defendants complaining of abdominal pain, severe headache, chest pain and vomiting.

Griggs alleges Megan was taken to the operating room for a C-section on May 14, 2012 and the defendants failed to have the appropriate medications to control her blood pressure. The suit claims the lack of medication during the procedure resulted in severe damages that ultimately took Megan's life.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Susan A. Capra of Clifford Law Offices.

The suit also names the following as respondents in discovery: Women's Health Consultants S.C., Allied Anesthesia Associates S.C., Drs. Michael D. Meister, Cerise J. Bush and Xavier F. Pombar D.O., as well registered nurse Tina O'Sullivan.
