An insurance company representing a couple is suing plumbers and home builders over the alleged flooding problems.

Chubb National Insurance Co., on behalf of Adam and Deborah Shields, filed a lawsuit April 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Patyk Plumbing Heating & Cooling Inc., the Lizzo Family Limited Partnership and K.C. Homes Inc., citing negligence.

The suit states the main drain stacks of the Shields' residence seeped through the second floor stack and first floor toilets on April 7, 2010, causing severe water damage to ceilings. It further alleges that in August 2010, a plumber discovered a bladder cleanout plug had not removed when construction was completed.

The insurance company is seeking damages in the amount of $60,265.22 to cover the damages and the deductible paid by the Shields, plus court costs. It is being represented by Matthew J. Schueler of Schueler, Dallavo & Casieri.
