Alexian Brothers Medical Center and others are facing a lawsuit from a woman who claims an elevator in their building abruptly closed on her.

Marilyn Sears and Richard Sears filed a lawsuit April 29 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Nexcore Healthcare Capital Group, Nexcore Properties LLC, Nexcore Group LP, Nexcore/RREEF Eberle LLC, Nexcore/RREEF JV LLC and Ventas Inc., citing negligence and loss of companionship.

According to the complaint, Marilyn was attempting to use the elevator at the defendant's Elk Grove facility on April 30, 2012, when the door closed rapidly and without warning.

She claims the door struck her caused her to fall to the floor. The suit alleges the defendants were negligent in the testing and maintenance of the elevator.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limit and are being represented by Schaumburg attorney Clark M. Raymond of Raymond & Raymond Ltd.
