Insurance company hits driver who crashed vehicle into home with complaint over damages

Thompson

A Cook County man is being sued over claims he crashed his vehicle into a home in Cook County, causing a fire.

Farmers Insurance Exchange, for policyholder Louis Golda, filed a lawsuit May 12 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Sam Guzzo, citing negligence.

According to the brief, Golda purchased a homeowner's insurance policy through Farmers for his residence on Bradwell Road in Inverness on Dec. 26.

The suit alleges Guzzo was driving westbound on Bradwell Road when he slid off the road and hit Golda's residence, causing a leak in the gas meter and a subsequent fire and significant property damage.

Farmers claims Guzzo failed to maintain control of his vehicle, stop his vehicle from hitting Golda's property and obey all Illinois traffic laws, causing the accident.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and court costs. It is being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys Steven M. Thompson and Emilie G. Kaplan of Sneckenberg, Thompson and Brody LLP.
