Family of deceased man name Manteno Veterans' Home employees in wrongful death claim

Herschberger

Three employees of the Manteno Veterans' Home are being sued by the family members of a patient who they claim died following an infection that required a partial leg amputation.

Deneyia King and Tamara King-Miles, as co-administrators of the Estate of James King Jr., filed a lawsuit May 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Lenard Winnicki, Rachelle Riley and Lisa Harris, citing negligence and wrongful death.

The plaintiffs claims James King Jr. was a resident of veterans' home from Feb. 1, 2012, through Feb. 16, 2013. The suit alleges James developed a pressure sore on his left heel that became infected and required amputation below the knee.

The complaint claims the defendants' negligent care caused James' health condition, which contributed to his Feb. 18, 2013 death.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and are being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys Margaret P. Bettersby-Black and Ashley H. Herschberger of Levin & Perconti.
