A woman is suing over allegations the negligence of hospital staff led to the death of her mother.
Pamela Jones, as independent administrator of the Estate of Bennie Jones, filed a medical malpractice lawsuit May 7 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Rush University Medical Center, Manorcare Health Services LLC, doing business as HCR Manorcare Health Services LLC, and THC-Chicago Inc., doing business as Kindred Hospital-Chicago.
According to the complaint, Bennie was admitted to Rush on Aug. 24, 2012, after falling in her home, and was discharged Sept. 14, despite staff documenting severe pressure ulcers. She was readmitted Sept. 16 and treated for an infection from the ulcers, before being transferred to Manorcare on Sept. 26, where she underwent surgery on Oct. 3.
The lawsuit states on Oct. 11, Bennie was transferred to Kindred Hospital, where she died from pneumonia and bone infection on Oct. 28.
Jones is seeking damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Ryan E. Yagoda of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz.
