Woman accuses Rush-Presbyterian, RML Specialty Hospital of wrongful death

The family of a deceased woman is suing a a pair of medical providers over claims their failure to diagnose her and provide proper nutrition led to her death.

Junefe Joy T. Abarintos, as independent administrator of the Estate of Zayda Fe Abarintos, filed a lawsuit May 10 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center Inc. and RMLHP Corporation Inc., doing business as RML Specialty Hospital, citing wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Zayda was admitted to Rush-Presbyterian for treatment on May 9, 2012, and to RML on May 31, 2012, during which time medical staff failed to diagnose her pressure ulcers, provide proper nutrition and order wound protection, among other claims.

Abarintos alleges the injuries Zayda sustained at the hospitals led to her June 25, 2012 death.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Ian R. Alexander of Goldberg & Goldberg.
