Father accuses Ingalls Memorial Hospital, doctor of failing to treat daughter's sickle cell disease

Scales

Ingalls Memorial Hospital and a doctor are facing a wrongful death suit that alleges they failed to treat a patient with sickle cell disease.

William Finley, as administrator of the Estate of Miyoshi Katanya Finley, filed a lawsuit May 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Ingalls Memorial Hospital and Dr. Tahir Abbasi, citing medical malpractice, wrongful death and loss of companionship.

Finley claims his daughter, Miyoshi, was being treated by the defendants for sickle cell crisis, acute chest syndrome and other conditions on July 24, 2012. The suit alleges the defendants didn't properly treat Miyoshi's symptoms, over-medicated her with narcotics and failed to provide adequate fluids, oxygen and blood.

Finley claims Miyoshi suffered great pain and died on July 25, 2012.

He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Leonard D. Litwin of Sheldon Hodes & Associates.
