A man is suing over claims he was injured after hitting his head on a beam when exiting his car in a Chicago parking garage.

Dean Reed filed a lawsuit May 23 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Hines Interests LP and Standard Parking Corporation Co., also known as Standard Parking Corp., and other unknown defendants, citing premises liability.

According to the suit, Reed parked his car in Standard Parking's garage at Citadel Center on South Dearborn Street in Chicago on May 23, 2012, and struck his head on a structural beam when he got out of his car.

He accuses the defendants of failing to keep the premises maintained in a reasonably safe manner for the public. Reed claims his injuries included contusions to his forehead, concussion, nausea, hearing loss and a fractured finger.

Reed is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limit and is being represented in the case by attorney Becky Dahlgren of Dahlgren Legal Services.
