The family of a former resident of Elmwood Care is suing, claiming its negligence in failing to prevent her from falling and developing ulcers led to her death.
Ferneitress Carter, as administrator of the Estate of Cornelia Carter, filed a wrongful death lawsuit May 27 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Elmwood Care Inc.
Carter claims Cornelia was admitted to the defendant's facility on Jan. 24, with a high risk for falls. She claims the Elmwood Care negligently monitored and cared for Cornelia, resulting in her falling while bathing and developing pressure ulcers.
According to the suit, the injuries she sustained contributed to cause April 9 death.
Carter is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented by Chicago attorney Brian J. Holmes of Hurley McKenna & Mertz PC.
