A Downers Grove man is suing a Tinley Park nonprofit religious organization, claiming he was injured on its premises after stepping on an uncovered sewage pipe.

Edward Robins filed a lawsuit May 19 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Mantellate Sisters Servants of Mary, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Robins visited the defendant's Marian Center, an indoor and outdoor area open to the public for spiritual and recreational activities, on Oct. 24, 2012, when he stepped into an uncovered sewage pipe obscured by leaves.

Robins claims as a result of the incident, he sustained injuries, including a tear to his urethra, that required hospitalizations and caused multiple infections, as well as risk of fatal complications with a previous kidney transplant.

Robins is seeking more than $75,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys Ethan E. White and Michael I. Leonard of Leonard Law Offices in Chicago.
