A man is suing over claims an infection he contracted in a Schaumburg hospital led to the amputation of his leg.

Warren Sheckler filed a lawsuit May 23 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Lexington Health Care Center of Schaumburg Inc. and Dr. Patricia Larson.

According to the complaint, Sheckler was admitted to Lexington Health Care Center on Feb. 20, 2012 for rehabilitation from dialysis and cardiac arrest earlier that year. While a patient there, Sheckler claims he developed an infection of his left foot and on May 24, 2012 was transferred to Alexian Brothers Medical Center.

Sheckler claims due to gangrene in his foot, he underwent surgery on June 1, 2012 to amputate his left leg. He accuses the defendants of failing to monitor his condition and treat it in a timely manner.

He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Edmund J. Scanlan.
