A Cook County company is suing a Schaumburg law firm and lawyer, accusing them of committing legal malpractice that made it have to pay more than $1M to settle a case.
Huntley Venture LLC filed a lawsuit June 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Donald G. Mulack and Meltzer, Purtill & Stelle LLC.
According to the complaint, the defendants failed to properly represent Huntley Venture in a 2008 court case seeking judgment in a dispute over the amended terms of utility fees on a parcel of land it purchased in 2003.
Huntley claims the defendants reviewed the amended terms before they were agreed upon, but failed to inform the company the changes opened the contract up to risks. The suit further alleges the defendants failed to file an appeal within the 30-day period required, forcing the company to pay more a than $1M settlement.
Huntley is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys Robert F. Krug Jr. and Brian M. Ozog of Carponelli & Krug in Barrington.
